"Vanity, vanity..."

[ Editor's Note: Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

Everyone reading this newsletter desires to be more attractive

Let's just admit it, okay?
The struggle many of us face is dealing with the vanity of it all. This stems from our upbringing and perhaps phrases like...

"Beauty is only skin deep."

And you are probably a lot like me: concerned with being a good person as well as being an attractive person.

Sometimes we feel guilty about the latter. We think that because we are trying to become more physically attractive we are not as deep as those who focus only on "inner beauty."

Utter nonsense.

Look, I will be the first to admit that someone only focused on outward beauty is probably a shallow and foolish person.

But I could say the same for someone focused only on their inner beauty.

Allow me to plead the case:

"They are shallow in the sense they are missing out on a huge aspect of the human experience."

"They are foolish because, in all likelihood, they are killing themselves slowly with poor nutrition and a lack of exercise."

>>> Do you call that deep?

I do not.

You all know about Fit Over 40, and how the Role Models in my book all look super --

http://www.fitover40.com

But what you may not realize is that these Role Models are also super people -- inside and out.

I was careful when I made my selection of folks to profile in my book.

Very careful.

We have a politician focused on making a big difference in the lives of people. We have nine men and women involved in ministry. We have dozens of caring moms, dads and grandparents. We have guys and gals doing tons for charity.

Deep, good, and yes...attractive people. You can and should be both.

According to science, these attractive people are also pretty smart.

Here's why...

>>> The Evolution of Desire

David Buss wrote an interesting book called "The Evolution of Desire." In it, he covers the science behind why we find one another either attractive or unattractive sexually.

His conclusions are backed up by several articles published in "Ethology and Sociobiology".

Their findings are hardly surprising. Here is just a sample of the science behind attraction...

----------------------------------------------
Both Sexes Look For Youth
----------------------------------------------

While men tend to look for youthful characteristics in the opposite sex, women look for youthful physical and character traits.

Both sexes are more attracted to a small waist to hip ratio and proportionate body mass.

Both sexes -- not just men.

That means low bodyfat and toned muscles. That does not mean "bodybuilder" or "marathoner."

Women view these physical characteristics as more of a sign of character. The ability to provide and to protect. It is centuries-old programming.

Men are simply more visual, although some of that visual deals with procreation which, again, is eons-old DNA programming.

Either way, our desire to mate is genetically driven and maintained through physical
attributes.

>>> Women Love Shoulders

After the narrow waistline, women voted "broad shoulders" as the second most desirable quality in the male physique.

That is pretty cool for guys as shoulders are easy to build when you do it right.

My shoulder routine is simple:

: : Dumbbell Presses (palms in) for size;
: : Dumbbell Laterals or Cable Laterals for width

A few others here and there...like Arnold Presses. Rear Lateral Raises.

The good thing is it takes only a few minutes once a week to do my shoulder workout. Only a few sets each for most men. That is all you require to build nice shoulders.

Sometimes I do more if I want to really get the shoulders to grow. But that is overkill for most of you folks.

Cool, eh? Just doing a few sets once a week allowed me to built some broad shoulders. It can for you, too.

But without that narrow waistline you will not look as attractive to the opposite sex.

You will just look bulky.

The entire routine is important for developing your body as a whole and take advantage of the small waist/wide shoulder look.

Read more here --

http://www.fitover40.com

So, while the ladies may love a nice smile, a nice pair of shoulders goes a long way too.

Remember: these are sociobiological findings. In other words, the qualities that drive us at the genetic level to define what we call attractive.

>>> Men and Women: Leanness = Youth

A woman does not have to be "skinny" in order to be considered youthful. However, on average, a trim female sparks the same biological reaction in men as a chronologically young female.

It turns out that youth is just as much a factor of bodyfat and muscle tone as it is facial features and even wrinkles.

Same for the ladies. The all-important "waist to hip" measurement seems to trigger more than just our primal desires.

It affects our hormones...yep.

We get all worked up over the sight of a trim waistline and hips.

Both men and women.

Hmmm...

So, after all of this, is it any wonder we all desire to "burn bodyfat" or "get toned"?

The reasons may not be vain at all. They may in fact be driven by our most primal genetic desires.

So, the next time someone accuses you of being vain or shallow because you want to improve your body, you can tell them this:

"I follow the science of attraction."

After they look at you funny, you can show them this newsletter. ; )

Besides, since when is laziness and sloth valued as qualities of depth and substance? Since when is "chunky" considered more spiritual than lean?

It's kind of silly when you look at it that way.

Did science really discover "the fat-gene"?

[ Editor's Note: Fitness author Jon Benson shared this info with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]
Science is at it again.

The powers that be found...brace yourself: another "fat gene".

Lipin, the new gene on the block, is now reported as the "gene that regulates how
the body stores and burns bodyfat."

In mice, that is. It's a start.

This could mean there is a treatment in the near future. Or this could be another
bust...just like leptin.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for discoveries that will make our battle against obesity
easier and more effective.

But this "fat gene" business is really not too new. In fact, this is the second fat-
gene discovery in the past ten years.

The other gene, lepitn, was debunked in January 2007. Ten years after it was first announced and five years after it became the "great fat-hope."

To quote one medical researcher:

"While you may be having a hard time fitting into your favorite jeans, it is
unlikely that your genes are to blame."

But don't give up hope. There's a good solution in the here and now.

But first...

>>> Are there really fat-genes?

You bet there are. I have four pair in my closet.

I kid...but I really do have four old pair of fat-"jeans" lurking about.

But, to answer the question: yes, there are literally genes that affect bodyfat distribution and metabolic issues pertaining to fat-metabolism.

The fact however is that these genes account for less than 3 percent of our obese population.

>>> That's a drop in the bucket.

Even then they would not make one obese. They merely make it more likely to become obese if you...

...that's right.

Think, eat, and move like an obese person.

Sorry to burst the bubble on science here, but I'm sticking to the 97.4% of the population who do not have to wait for genetic discoveries to get the body they want.

http://www.fitover40.com

The fact also remains that obesity is and always will be an issue of how much food we consume in comparison to how little exercise we experience.

Increase your activity and increase your metabolically "active" foods (foods that increase thermogenesis) and you'll decrease your bodyfat.

You can eliminate our future number one killer with a fork and a spoon.

No 'magic gene-turner-offer' needed. Will one help? Sure. I'd be the first in line if it was safe to take.

But do you think I'm waiting around for it to happen? Hardly. Life it too short...and frankly, once you know how, bodyfat is too simple to burn.

I reveal how I did just that - and how 52 other people age 40-80 did the same thing.

Go get my book today --

http://www.fitover40.com

Your option is to wait for science to come up with some magic pill.

Or wait another 5-10 years until they debunk this latest fat-gene, just like they did leptin.

Let's face the facts: there is no gene that is responsible for eating poorly and watching too much TV.

Sorry, but sometimes you have to call it like it is.

But we all need some help when it comes to winning our personal war with bodyfat.

That's where smart nutrition and a fun and safe way to move enters the picture.

Engage yourself in that lifestyle and you won't need a miracle of science. Your body is the only miracle you will ever need.

Yes -- your body. You can do the job as-is, as you are today.

Meet 53 people today who will prove that to you --

It's all about "calories", right?

[ Editor's Note: Fitness author Jon Benson shared this info with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

Wrong.

A calorie is NOT a calorie.
Despite all the "experts" you've heard say how weight-loss is "all about calories-in
and calories-out", it's just plain nonsense.

What if you fed a group of monkeys identical calories, with the only exception being the type of calorie consumed?

Would they all gain weight at the same rate? Apparently not. Why?

>>> Not All Calories Are Created Equal.

At the Obesity and Diabetes Research Center at the University of Maryland, this
exact experiment was conducted.

Some of the monkeys grew heavier with an identical diet as their thinner counterparts.

The difference was the simple carbohydrate to protein and fat ratio. The same calories from simple sugars caused more weight-gain than the same calories from proteins and fats.

Monkeys are not the only ones. We humans react the same.

A recent study directed by Penelope Greene of the Harvard School of Public Health found that people eating an extra 300 calories a day on a very low-carb regimen lost just as much during a 12-week study as those on a standard low-fat diet.

Over the course of the study, they consumed an extra 25,000 calories. That should have added up to about seven pounds.

But for some reason, it did not.

"There does indeed seem to be something about a low-carb diet that says you can eat more calories and lose a similar amount of weight,"Greene said.

The bottom line is simply this: a calorie of "this" does not equal a calorie of "that".

This is one of the many reasons I'm not too keen on calorie-counting. I don't want to weigh all my food all the time and count calories every day...and I don't.

I eat a very simple diet -- lower in carbs and higher in protein and fat. That works for me. It may not work for you, but I promise ONE of the nutrition plans in my book wi
ll --

http://www.fitover40.com

>>> Why make this promise?

Because there are 53 different role models profiled. All different ages, both men and women, with different bodytypes and nutrition plans.

Meat-eaters. Vegans. Vegetarians. And everything in-between.

You see, there is no "one" perfect diet-- but there is an ideal way to eat for you and your body.

That's what I want to help you discover.

One universal truth is the calorie lie. Do not buy into the calories-in/calories-out
method of weight-loss. You'll drive yourself batty counting numbers all day long.

Once you begin to exercise and consume whole, nutritious, tasty foods, you will rarely need to "count" anything.

I tally up things here and there just to see where I'm at. But just to give you a real-life example: I have not counted a day's worth of calories in over a year.

And I'm under 10% bodyfat.

What's more, I used to be obese. So if I can do it, you can too.

See what I mean here --

Jon Benson
Creator, Fit Over 40

P.S. I know you don't really believe that you could eat 2,000 calories of sugar and
see the same fatburning benefit as you would eating 2,000 calories of whole foods.

But that's what a lot of "experts" want you to believe when you get right down to it.

Calories-in/calories-out is OUT. It's a lie.

I want you to see, believe, and live the truth --

Myth or magic: "Burn Bodyfat While You Snore?"

[ Editor's Note: Fitness author Jon Benson shared this info with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

A recent study presents us with some great news when it comes to burning bodyfat.

This is rather eye-opening for the "cardio bunny" crowd -- those folks who swear by
endless hours of spin classes or elliptical workouts to burn bodyfat.

Ready for the conclusion?

: : Weight training is far superior for burning
: : body fat and elevating metabolic rate
: : post-exercise than any other exercise.

If ever you wanted to start training with weights, or if you have been doing endless cardio with no results, this article is for you.

Note: I cover exactly how to make weight training simple and time-efficient in
Fit Over 40.

Read more here --

http://www.fitover40.com
The Study
------------------------------------------------

A body mass study conducted by The Human Performance Laboratory at The University of
Wisconsin demonstrated that weight training of a specific variety and rep scheme elevated metabolic rates (measured though VO2 max) for thirty-nine hours.

That means you would be burning more bodyfat even when you are sound asleep. Pretty cool isn't it?

In comparison, the average forty-minute cardio session elevates the metabolism for only a few hours post-exercise.

That is thirty-nine full hours of being able to consume more food without gaining bodyfat, all things being equal.

For the record, no other form of exercise comes close to doing that in as short a period of time as targeted weight and/or resistance training.

This degree of post-exercise calorie burn is close to the levels seen in marathoners.

This is nothing new to avid weight-trainers, but it may be news to a lot of you. This is especially enlightening if you have a fear becoming muscle-bound if you venture into the weight-room area of your gym.

------------------------------------------------
The Specifics
------------------------------------------------

The study focused on repetitions and exercises. Certain protocols delivered the greatest results when it came to post-exercise calorie burn.

True elevation of metabolic rate did not occur if weights were too heavy, involving exercises that were done for less than six repetitions.

Even more illuminating is the fact that metabolic elevation was not significant if the weights were too light. This was defined as any exercise that took over twelve repetitions to complete.

The thirty-nine hour elevation in metabolic response was caused by a workout which
stimulated the larger muscles. This involved compound weight-training movements such
as squats, rows, bench presses, and curls.

The ideal way to do this is not with machines, Pilates, or baby dumbbells, but with free weights. Exercises should be targeted in the eight to twelve repetition range for maximum fat-burning metabolic effect.

Similar studies revealed a twelve-hour increase in metabolic rate using a program of about eight exercises, four sets each, and using eight to twelve reps taken to momentary completion.

This is hardly a marathon workout!

The nutrient calculation for post-workout recovery was determined to be significant, especially in comparison with more moderate forms of exercise.

This means more food is required to repair the body, and the metabolism once again is elevated.

The body mass study did not address the metabolic spike with proper post-workout nutrition, however frequent feedings that are sufficient in protein and moderate in carbs have clearly demonstrated a significant metabolic increase.

------------------------------------------------
The Application
------------------------------------------------

Heavy weights for lower repetitions is not an ideal strategy for post-exercise caloric burn. This would factor into the reasons why powerlifters develop strength but very little definition.

The "lighter weights, higher repetition" strategy, and its failure to produce results, is probably more important to most of us who want to use weights to
sculpt our physique.

Lighter weights for higher reps is not an effective strategy for fatburning. Yet this is the protocol that many trainers use for individuals wanting to quote-unquote "tone" their muscles.

This is also the preferred strategy for many female weight trainees who have been told that heavier weights would build too much muscle.

The post-exercise caloric burn is what really pays the dividends when it comes to fatburning.

Exercise by itself burns only a marginal amount of calories during the session itself. When used in conjunction with a smart mealplan, this can be a very powerful fatburning tool.

However, bear in mind that even an intense workout, one that may burn five hundred calories or more, can be offset by a single modest-calorie meal.

------------------------------------------------
The Conclusion
------------------------------------------------

The bottom line is weight training rules when it comes to sculpting the body and earning the greatest post-exercise dividends.

Like a good investment, a brief but targeted weight training routine conducted just two or three times per week can produce rewards that are both short-term and exponentially powerful.

When combined with a fat-burning nutrition plan and stress-reducing exercise (such as yoga, walking, or Pilates), the rewards are greater still.

Jon Benson

61-year-olds burn bodyfat and control glucose...without cardio‏

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this info with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

How would you like to burn bodyfat and build lean muscle at the same time without cardio and control blood sugar problems?

Silly questions...but I have some great answers.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition released a study performed by Iglay et. al. that confirmed what we've been saying for years:

You can change your body at any age.

And you can reverse the damage of high blood sugar and insulin without the use of drugs.

How? Resistance training and nutrition.

Not cardio.

Although, to be fair, there is a definite place for cardio. More on that in a moment.

Here's more about the Iglay study...

The average age of this 36-member study group was 61.

Not 16...61.

The average muscle mass gained was 4 pounds. The average bodyfat burned was also 4 pounds. All in just 12 weeks.

At the same time folks.

So much for the "you cannot gain muscle and burn bodyfat at the same time" nonsense.

As I told you a while back, I do this all the time -- gain muscle, burn bodyfat. It's all in the nutrition and some clever training principles.

Read about them here --

Back to the study...

This was not a complete lifestyle overhaul. Rather, this group made some very modest lifestyle changes.

Carbs were kept at about 50%. Had they decreased the carbs a bit more, I bet the results would have been even more dramatic.

Protein was in two groups:  low and high. "High" was considered 25%.

Again, had this been increased, the results would have been amazing. If you're in good health, higher protein intakes can make a radical body composition difference.

I like 40-55%...but that's me.

Most people can get by on less. But under 25% is not smart for weights and/or resistance training.

No cardio was performed. Only weights. Resistance training done the way I describe in
Fit Over 40 --

http://www.fitover40.com  < -----  more

Rather than training "half-way", these folks trained at 85% a few days per week. They pushed their last sets to fatigue.

In other words, they worked hard. Go figure...hard work and smart food.
Will wonders ever cease? : )

Combined with an avg. 2,000 calorie per day dietary plan, this simple routine worked its magic.

It should be noted that the high protein group gained more muscle than the low protein group.

That should tell you something.

But both groups burned bodyfat and gained muscle at the same time.

Again, without cardio.

Had they applied the principles I discuss -- like fasting cardio, Core Value Linking, and more -- 12 lbs of bodyfat would have been burned.

Or so I bet.

Why?

Because I see these results every day. A pound-per-week is not uncommon for bodyfat burning.

And, when you burn it like this, you can keep it off unilke crash "diets" which will always let you down.

That's not all the Iglay study revealed. It also revealed that weight training and a moderate-carb diet worked wonders for glucose management.

As we age, no matter what our life-style is like, we become more and more resistant to insulin.

Sugars from carbs become harder for the body to process. The result is often Type 2 diabetes.

This is a reversible condition, folks. It's not a death sentence.

And the secret is sound nutrition plus resistance training.

End of story.

You don't have to completely change your lifestyle, but you have to modify it a bit.

Listen: the change is so worth it.

Imagine having two to four times the energy you have now.

Imagine how your body will respond once you burn off that excess bodyfat and build some lean, curvy muscle.

This is not a "young man's dream" -- this is possible for anyone at any age.

These studies will continue to reveal what we already know:  you can slow the process of aging down, and even reverse many of them.

You can turn back the biological clock and look 10-20 years younger -- not with surgery, but with nutrition and resistance training.

And you can reverse and prevent Type 2 diabetes. This is quickly becoming one of our leading killers. Diabetes contributes to both heart disease and cancer.

And you can do something about it. Without question.

See 52 people who have --

Free - Stubborn Fat Video!

If you have stubborn bodyfat that just does not want to budge, you will find this freee video helpful.

It's only 16 minutes long and covers the connection between your "hormones" and bodyfat.

Not only bodyfat... Your sexual-drive, your energy, your mood, and of course issues like menopause, andropause (male menopause) and more.

To be honest, I personally found this video which is actually really only an audio, to be quite boring, so if you get bored easily then drag the slider to about the last 3/4's of it, which I found to be the most important part. Unless you want to know about Dr.Lucille's qualifications & so on.

Give it a look & listen...

Just by taking some of Dr. Lucille's advice (natural, without harmful drugs) you can kick-start your hormonal system back into overdrive.

That's the best way to end stubborn bodyfat and reboot your drive at the same time.

WHAT KILLS FAT, CANCER AND ALZHEIMER'S?

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this info with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

One is a leading killer.

One is something everyone over 60 dreads.

All are things we all want to get rid of.

Two are defensible. Not curable... yet... but defensible.

And the really nice part: You get leaner by taking this defense.

Again:  Get leaner AND help protect your cells from cancer and your
brain from Alzheimer's.

Sounds like a dream come true.

Recent studies on the state called "ketosis" rendered some
interesting results.

Boston College biology professor Tom Seyfried published his
findings in the online edition of WebMD in February of 2004. Mice
with brain tumors that were fed a diet high in glucose, the brain's
primary source of energy, showed rapid decline in health and rapid
growth of the cancerous cells.

The study group, fed a higher fat, lower carbohydrate diet, showed
the inverse: Up to 65% "decrease" in the size of the tumors.

But how is this possible? Isn't glucose (sugar) the brain's primary
source of energy?

Yes... and no.

Yes, this is supposed to be the case. No, as in it was not always
the case -- at all. In fact, the fact that our brains can thrive on
glucose is proof of our body's ability to evolve to its
surroundings.

"Ketones" are another, and arguably preferred source of "brain
fuel", formed only when the body is stripped of its carbohydrate
intake. And ketones are also the miracle workers in the
"glucose-starved brains of Alzheimer's patients", according to
researchers.

Follow me here -- it gets a bit tricky.

Your brain can function off of glucose. But instead of giving it
what it needs -- glucose on a much more limited basis 'and' less
frequently (mimicking the days on the Savannah) -- we dump a ton
more sugar in our system than is required.

The result is a disease state known as insulin resistance. The
brain becomes resistant to insulin. The cells in the brain
literally begin to starve, despite being over-fed the very
substance they require.

Think of this like oxygen:  Fine in limited amounts, toxic in high
doses. The same goes for carbohydrate. Too much, too long, and
insulin resistance can set in.

And, both cancer and Alzheimer's seem directly affected by the same
condition. So it is no surprise they could be reversed and/or
prevented by the same treatment: A lower-carbohydrate, higher fat
diet.

When fed a diet higher in fats (coconut oil in particular) and low
in starch and sugar, brains that were already in advanced stages of
Alzheimer's showed marked improvement in cognitive function. The
ketones produced on a lower-carbohydrate diet bypass the "broken
cells" damaged by too much carbohydrate and reward the cells with
an alternative energy source they can use.

Studies on mild ketosis reveal that after the body adapts brain
function "improves". This is no surprise, as ketosis is thought to
be our "default state" of mental existence for the past 100,000
years. Starch, sugar and even vegetable-based carbohydrate was
limited for the majority of the year back in the days of the
hunter/gatherers. And our brains and bodies adapted to this kind of
nutrition.

My personal and professional opinion is that about 25% of us can
get by with our higher-carbohydrate diets without a problem. The
rest of us... big problem.

But there is a way to have your cake and eat it too -- literally.

Years ago I devised a dietary plan that allows for enough
carbohydrate to keep insulin resistance from ever forming -- even
reversing it in many people. Rarely is ketosis ever required. And
you do not have to remove all the carbs from your diet.

And, if that wasn't enough, you shed bodyfat faster than any
dietary plan I've ever seen.

HOW TO AVOID THOSE 5 AWFUL WORDS...

(And get a good body at the same time)

The Five Dreaded Words
Avoid "I'm Not in the Mood" with Some Libido-Lifting Tips

Tell me if you can relate to the following experience:

A long week of work has finally reached its end.  Sure, the week was difficult, but the main reason for its lengthiness was due to anticipation -- anticipation of what the weekend held in store.

All weekends are great.  But this weekend was billed to be WAY above average.  Why? Because you were spending it with your significant other, away from it all, in one of the finest of hotels your city has to offer.  And if a little bit of luck was on your side, it would turn out to be one of the more memorable "experiences" of a lifetime -- ahem, if you know what I mean (and I think you do).

Turns out, things didn't go as planned.  The hotel was great, and the decor was to die for, but The Five Dreaded Words were spoken, the ones that always put the kibosh on a romantic night of lovemaking:  "I'm not in the mood."

Each one of us have either felt or heard these words spoken before, and whether you're the giver or the receiver, it's never pleasant.  Sex is a HUGE part of a relationship, and when opportunities for lovemaking go by the wayside, it frequently diminishes forthcoming opportunities -- whether it's due to fear of the same thing happening again, or the lowering of expectations.

The key, of course, is to have that "motivation" within you at all times so those Five Dreaded Words are never spoken.  Here's a small helping of ways in which to keep your libido lifted so you can avoid the 5DW :

Diet

Skeptics argue that keeping one's libido lifted through diet is a self-fulfilling prophecy; in other words, if you think almonds or chocolate will lift your libido, odds are good they will.

But scientific evidence -- not psychosomatic hogwash -- suggests that certain foods do, indeed, lift one's libido.  For example, a study from Southwestern University found that coffee beans lift the libido of females.  For men, the love-lifting libation is tea, specifically Damiana tea. Alternative health expert Dr. Sarah Brewer says the ingredient responsible for increasing male libido in this tea is called gonzalitosin.  This ingredient sends a tingling sensation to the penis.

As a man, all I can say is, "Say no more!"

Supplements

Supplementing with vitamins and minerals are, hopefully, a normal part of your daily regimen, but specific supplements provide a great boost to your sex drive.  Take St. John's Wort as an example.

St. John's Wort has a multitude of benefits -- from improving one's mood to improving one's mind -- and those benefits can be found in the bedroom.  Because of its mood-improving properties, studies have shown that 60 percent of people formerly uninterested in sex regained their interest after taking St. John's Wort.

Care for two more?  Try ginseng and gingko biloba on for size (and no, I don't mean that kind of size).  Ginseng is one of the earliest herbs to be widely marketed in the United States, and it's taken by millions of people regularly for the natural boost of energy it provides.  So for people whose energy levels leave them pooped time comes for whoopee, ginseng is just the thing.

As for gingko biloba, this oddly-named herb stimulates blood flow throughout the body and brain (which explains why it's taken by those who have a hard time remembering things).  As blood flow improves its flow throughout the body, it serves as the perfect elixir for those who have a hard time getting a, shall we say, "hard on."

Research published in the Journal of Sex Education and Therapy found that men who took gingko biloba regularly were able to maintain erections after six months (granted, gingko biloba is not an overnight healer, but the improvement took place, and it took place without the negative side effects that always accompany male impotency drugs).

A low libido may feel like something that's out of your hands; something that will come back on its own in its own due course.  That may be the case, but more often than not, it can be through our every-day actions and lifestyle.

"SHOULD YOU BE CONCERNED?"

Anyone with a history of high blood pressure in their family knows what devastation it can wreak.  It carries with it a mishmash of health risks, many of them serious, like tripling the risk of dying from a heart attack, quadrupling the risk of dying from a stroke, doubling the risk of congestive heart failure and tripling the risk of developing kidney disease.

But if our very lives weren't enough for high blood pressure to be in the top five of our "Health Issues to Be Concerned About" lists, then how about the lives of our marriages and relationships?

High blood pressure has a significant impact on a couple's sexlife.  Sex is a crucial part of any relationship, and when a loving couple is not having it at least on a semi-regular basis, more often than not, the relationship sours faster than curdled milk.

The reason high blood pressure affects the average sexlife all boils down to blood flow. Due to the narrowing of the arteries that high blood pressure creates, it diminishes a man's ability to have an.erection -- never mind maintain one -- as there's less blood flowing to the penis.

To rectify this situation, the average guy heads to his doctor, reluctantly tells him or her about his issues "down there," and the doctor prescribes him with some form of hypertension med -- usually an alpha or beta-blocker.

Problem solved, right?  Not exactly.

While your blood pressure levels might lower incrementally, your sex drive will lower incrementally as well -- the very opposite of what you want to have happen.

This isn't some theory concocted by so-called natural health "whack jobs," mind you. Well-respected news organizations and medical information outlets -- like ABC News and the Mayo Clinic -- corroborate this.  In an ABC News webcast on Feb. 7 of last year, Dr. Domenic Sica, chairman for Clinical Pharmacology and Hypertension at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, said this:

"When you look at it, a number of the blood pressure medications we use are associated with the onset of male dysfunction.  Now, that can be a diuretic, a beta-blocker, or so-called peripheral alpha beta-blocker -- those are three drugs commonly linked to male dysfunction."

I'm not sure the link can be made any clearer; you name the hypertension drug, and it will adversely affect your sexlife.

Given this, if you'll pardon the cliche, how does one kill two birds with one stone?  How does one lower their blood pressure and improve their lovelife at the same time?  Or is that even possible?

Absolutely it's possible, and you can learn how to do it all-naturally.

Bestselling authors Frank Mangano and Jon Benson have developed an easy, all-natural way to lower your blood pressure and improve your sexlife at the same time.  They weren't sure this was possible, but after months of research and hordes of emails from people on how their system worked for them, they don't just think it's possible, they know it's possible!

Let me prove it to you.

The Skinny on Fats (To Get A Good Body)

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

Let's get this one out in the open:

1. Fats do not make you gain bodyfat.

2. Fats do not put you on Heart Attack Row.

3. Fats are not the enemy.

We've been sold a bag of lies when it comes to fats.

Fats are essential for your body's hormone production, skin health, absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and even burning bodyfat. Yep... you need fats to burn fat.!

Studies have been conducted to attempt to elevate cholesterol levels using high-fat diets. Most all of them have failed miserably -- in fact several "lowered" total cholesterol while raising the so-called "good" cholesterol (HDL).

That being said, you don't need the following...

1. A lot of fats in your diet. Fats still contain over twice the calories per gram as carbs and protein.

2. Any kind of "fake fats" -- margarine or processed oils of any kind are highly dangerous foods.

Here's my simple dietary fats solution:

1. Eat fats as they occur in nature, but eat at least 80% as they "actually" occur in nature -- meaning from grass-fed and free-range sources. The extra cost is worth it. It tastes better and your medical costs will well offset the few dollars more per pound you pay.

2. Cook with a combination of olive oil and coconut oil, but use both sparingly. If you are eating plenty of animal protein you do not need excessive fats... not because of 'danger' but because of needless calories. Not a good idea if you're wanting to keep your abs. But a bit of raw butter or olive oil can make bland veggies taste wonderful, so feel freee.

Also, omega 3-rich fats like olive oil and fish (and especially fish oil) help lower inflammation. That's the real culprit behind heart disease in most cases.

3. Avoid a lot of fats at night. The night-time meals should be high in lean protein (tuna, tofu, turkey breast) with very limited fats if you are wanting to really get lean. If you are just trying to shed bodyweight slowly, it's okay to have some fats at night.

Just do me a favor: If you are on the "Fats make you gain bodyfat and have heart attacks" bandwagon, jump off. We have consumed fat for countless thousands of years. Just consume it the way we always HAVE (naturally, not stuffed with hormones and cooked up in a lab) and you'll be fine.

If you want a diet-solution that actually uses dietary fats to help you take off the bodyfat, then use this one:

It's a real-world plan that allows you to eat your favorite foods and still shed the bodyweight you want.

And yes -- that includes fats.

Here is a short review:

The Course is for anyone who wants to become their own "personal" fatloss expert. It is complete with a quiz each day and more material than most people sell in a book... and it's totally freee.

After the course, you get his "Radical Fatloss Blueprint" freee too. This is all about how he and a group of "guinea pigs" experimented with natural techniques and got up to 21 lbs of unwanted bodyfat off in just 21 days.

The average was 17.5, but some people got as much as 30 lbs off.

All with little to no muscle lost.

It then outlines the 'exact' workout and supplement "feeding" schedule Jon still uses to get into top shape in 21 days.

This is down to the 'hour'... and it includes home workouts or gym workouts. Your choice.

This is his gift to my readers, and I am thrilled to share it with you.

Exercise And The Brain

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

If you ever needed another good reason to exercise, I've got one for you:

Exercise makes your brain bigger.

Actually this isn't entirely accurate. To be more specific, exercise was found to increase brain size slightly, but far more important to increase "spatial reasoning."

This is the ability to recognize patterns, remember phrases, numbers, and so-on. This was discovered by researchers at the Universities of Chicago and Pittsburgh.

It is also one of the most important factors to the prevention of Alzheimer's and dementia.

My mom suffered with dementia the last ten years of her life. But unlike most dementia patients she was fully functional thanks to exercise. She drove and had a mind that was unbelievably sharp right up until an accident injured her beyond the ability to exercise.

After that, she mentally went downhill rapidly. Thankfully, she passed in peace... and she had ten wonderfully active years thanks to her willingness to take up weight training at the age of 71.

She eventually walked up to 3 miles per day and trained in the gym 3 days per week.

That kept her mind sharp, along with fish oil and N-Acetyl L-Carnitine, a wonderful brain nutrient.

Once again, we see the power of exercise. It increases the QUALITY of your life.

Quantity is no where near as important to me as quality.

The links at the bottom of this newsletter are to my books on exercise. Pick the one that appeals to you most and take action.

Your brain will thank you, as will the rest of your body.

One of the best ways to start exercising when you are over 40 is by using the routines covered in "Fit Over 40".

This book profiles 53 different men and women, age 40 to 80, all sharing their workouts, nutrition plans, and mental empowerment techniques.

It is a MUST-HAVE for anyone wanting to begin exercising or improve their level of fitness after the age of 40.

Exercise Less, Not More, To Get A Good Body!

[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

If I had to pick out the number one reason most people fail to achieve good results in the gym, guess what it would be?

Over-training. Exercising too much.

Sounds counter-intuitive, but trust me: It's quite real.

Folks write to me all the time and say...

"Jon, I don't get it. I cannot lose bodyfat and I'm running six days a week for an hour and training in the gym five days a week for 45 minutes!"

My answer back is usually:

"You are training 4x more than me, and I'm a fitness pro!"

Look, do you take 21 aspirin for a headache, thinking the more you take the faster your pain will go away?

No?

So why apply the same logic to fitness? Only a certain amount is required. Beyond that, you are spinning your wheels.

When I wrote 7 Minute Muscle (available here:  http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/be4evagood) I exposed all the lies about training too long and why this is not the best way to achieve the results you want. Check it out if you want the facts.

One more thing:  75% of your progress will come in the kitchen, not in the gym or on the treadmill.

As for me, I would much rather eat smart and train less than train all the time and be forced to eat 6-8 times a day just to recover from it all.

That makes no sense to me at all.

You?
